One of the central props in the storyline of The Da Vinci Code is the 'cryptex', said to be designed by Leonardo Da Vinci. There are some modern makers of these artistic safety boxes though, like Justin Nevins who even supplied some of his creations to Dan Brown (receiving a glowing testimonial in return).
