Tom Hanks: "I Hope They Ask Me"

With The Lost Symbol barely on bookshelves, Tom Hanks has let it be known that he is keen to once again play Robert Langdon in the next movie instalment:

just finished it last week. Page-turner. Dan Brown knows how to weave a tale. I was exhausted by the end of it... I'd love to if they're going to do it - I'm not going to walk away from that.... If they make it again, I hope they ask me. If they didn't, what did I do wrong?

Who would be the choices for the supporting actors? Morgan Freeman as Warren Bellamy perhaps, and Linda Hunt as Sato? What about Katherine and Peter Solomon, and Mal'akh?

Hugh Jackman Receives My Vote

Sorry to say I was never happy with Tom Hanks playing the role of Langdon. His comedic background always makes me feel like he is going to crack a joke any minute.

I'm sure Tom will play the role again, but I feel Hugh Jackman would have made a much more believable Langdon. When I watch a movie, I want to forget I'm watching actors.

@ArionLove

Did you ever see Jim Carrey in Michel Gondry's 2004 "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"? I never thought he could be anything but a comedian (who I had no time for) - but his performance blew me away, no doubt helped by the storyline and director - still, mind-changing stuff (no pun intended).

Tom Hanks HAS to come back!

I really think Hanks should come back. I can't think of anyone else to play the role, really. Hanks is just what I remember Langdon as now, since Dan didn't really make a clear image. But for Peter Solomon, I don't know how good this guy can do an accent, but I vote for Bill Nigh.

For Peter Soloman...

Maybe Victor Garber...?

Nice one!

Didn't know who he was by name, but I know the face - and my image of Peter Solomon is remarkably close! I like your choice. :)

The Lost Symbol

As I read this book, Linda Hunt came instantly to mind for Sato as did Morgan Freeman as Bellamy. No other actor can play Robert Langdon but Tom Hanks.

Richard Gere would make a terrific Peter Soloman. Sigorny Weaver is Katherine.

Mal'akh is described as a huger person but someone with the talent of Edward Norton is needed to make the transitions with belief.

Who can play Peter

I thought that Patrick Stewart would play a good Peter Solomon. He is a good actor and he is great at showing pain and empathy (Spoiler: For most of the movie the character is in pain). Also, he's old and bald. You can't go wrong here.

The Lost Symbol Characters

Morgan Freeman for Bellamy, Diane Lane for Katherine, Josh Hartnell for Mal'akh, Ed Harris for Peter Solomon, Kirsten Vangsness for Katherine's assistant, Linda Hunt fof Sato. Even though there could have been a better choice for Robert Langdon in the beginning, now that Tom Hanks in in two films you cannot change him.

Mal'akh - Edward Norton
Katherine - Angelina Jolie

Phil

I think Dennis Haysbert would be a much better Warren Bellamy. You may know him from the unit or the alstate ads. Edward Nortin as mal akh? I think you could find someone much better

I also tought of Morgan

I also tought of Morgan Freeman as Bellamy, but I am also thinking of Samuel L. Jackson.
As Katherine and Peter I have problems finding the right one I think is perfect for the role.
For Mal'akh I was thinking of Ralph Fiennes. (when reading I was seeing him in front of me, as he was playing in "Red Dragon".
As Sato I was thinking of Lucy Liu, but was also thinking that she is too young.

Possible actors for the roles

I think the following can do a good job for the following roles, the point is you suggest those actors for a role who have NOT already done similar role(s), for a true actor it is not a challenge!
and there is no surprise for the audience.
Robert Langdon, Harvard symbologist, Protagonist- Tom Hanks (it has to be Tom)
Peter Solomon, Smithsonian secretary, billionaire, Freemason, Langdon's closest friend - Christopher Plummer (the man's got grace and heritage written all over his face, great performer too!)
Zachary Solomon/Andros/Mal'akh/Dr. Christopher Abaddon, Peter Solomon's son, tattoo-covered villain - Vin Diesel (Truly underutilized talent, time for Vin to show he is more than just Muscles! but the role needs some one huge like him... and he can create fear and awe)
Warren Bellamy, Architect of the Capitol, and Freemason - Laurance Fishbourne (need i say more)
Katherine Solomon, Noetic scientist, sister of Peter Solomon- this is a tough one, i would like to see Sharon Stone in this role, she is of perfect age and she is an actress after all (unfortunately stereotyped)
Inoue Sato, Director of CIA's Office of Security- Lucy Liu...hard work to look like Sato (some crazy diet, and good makeup should do it)
Trish Dunne, Peter and Katherine Solomon's assistant - Kirsten Vangsness from Criminal Minds!

Mal'akh choice

Amaury Nolasco as Zach/Mal'akh I think. Could play a drugged out skinny dude and get beefed up and intimidating. Check out his screenshots from Max Payne.

Linda Hunt is perfect for Sato.

The Right Actors & Actresses For The Right Roles

After a painstaking and thorough study and analysis, my choice of actors and actresses for "The Lost Symbol" movie are as follows:

Robert Langdon - Tom Hanks
Warren Bellamy - Morgan Freeman or Danny Clover
Katherine Solomon - Leonor Varela Palmer
Malak'h - Arnold Vosloo
Innoe Sato - Jodi Lyn O' Keefe
Peter Solomon - Anthony Zerbe or Helmut Bakaitis
Dean Galloway - Emm, well, I'm still thinking!

What do you think?

Please, you may learn more about these guys on Wikipedia or on our good ol' Google.

The cast

I pictured Bellamy as Lance Reddick, the guy who plays Agent Broyles on Fringe. He reminds me of a cross between Scatman Crothers and Rod Serling from the Twilight Zone.

Tom Hanks is Robert Langdon for me since I first read the books after I heard he was cast for the part in the Da Vinci Code.

I pictured George Clooney as Peter Solomon

Vin Diesel would be good as Mal'akh if he could pull it off. I pictured Billy Zane on steroids when I read it.

My mind kept picturing Angelica Huston as Katherine, even though I don't find her that attractive and the book described her as so. Also, if Clooney is Peter then this wouldn't work.

Anthony Hopkins as Dean Galloway.

Sato seemed kind of cartoonish to me so I wouldn't be all that disapointed if they changed her character completely

And finally, Cheech Marin as Alfonso Nunez., the unlucky security guard who let it all happen.

Possible actors for Mal'akh

I agree that Vin Diesel would be good if he could pull it off. But when reading about someone with muscles and tattoos, I pictured Dwayne Johnson, The Rock.

Anonymous wrote 25 weeks 20 hours ago

Yeah, when I started reading

Yeah, when I started reading Warren Bellamy's character, Morgan Freeman immediately came to mind and that's how I envisioned him. However with Mal'akh, I never associated him with any particular actor, but after reading these comments, I realize that the mental image I created for him does resemble Vin Diesel or Arnold Vosloo quite a bit!

Mal'akh???

i just finished the book, and have a couple of things to add to what everyone has said about which actors would fit...

Tom Hanks HAS to play Langdon (for MANY reasons)

Linda Hunt HAS to play Sato... google her name and tell me thats not EXACTLY what you had in mind for Sato

Morgan Freeman is a good choice for Bellamy

as for Peter Solomon and Zach/Mal'akh... the actors (and i actually assume Zach and Mal'akh will be two different actors... because the transformation is supposed to be so massive that you would not realize one is the other) need to believable as Father and Son... you cant have someone like "The Rock" or Vin Diesel play Mal'akh and have Patrick Stewart be Peter.... you need a MASSIVE man (6'4", 230-250lb) to play Mal'akh, and he also needs to be able to be CHARMING as Dr Abaddon... this, i assume, will be the toughest person to cast! this is not a "big guy"... this is a man who has the strength to pick a woman up with one hand... hes been using steroids and HGH... this needs to be a MASSIVE man... not that he would have the acting chops to pull it off, but PHYSICALLY i see someone like Bill Goldberg (look him up, and imagin him tattoed from head to toe)

sato

lova linda hunt as an actress but sato sorry to say needs to be very authetic in the ethnicity department. Japanese or oriental to say the least. Plus on a side note NO ANGELINA JOLIE AS KATHERINE!!!!

Anonymous wrote 16 weeks 2 days ago

malakh

if he could act Brock lesner should play buffed up malakh, and zach should def be a different actor alot smaller and with some similar facial structure features, idk anyone els who i pictured better then brock lesner as malakh

Anonymous wrote 14 weeks 2 days ago

'Tom Hanks comical

'Tom Hanks comical background' ????? Anyway... moving on

Natalie Portman is the incarnation of smart and beautiful (Havard graduate) so for Katherine that would be appropriate

Edward Norton is no where big enough to play malakh I don't understand that suggestion either

Anonymous wrote 13 weeks 3 days ago

Monica Bellucci as Katherine

Although she is a little young, she is immediately who I thought of for Katherine.

Anonymous wrote 10 weeks 5 days ago

Malaka

Some of you are saying that the rock or desiel should play malake but wow.no way. not big enough and not a good look. The guy that played the mummy Arnold vosloo would be the perfect canidate. He is big muscular and would be bad ass covered in tattoos. He is an educted man and would pleay a good doctor too.

LOST SYMBOL CAST

Tom Hanks just has to be Langdon - it wouldn't be the same without him.

For some reason, when reading The Lost Symbol, I have pictured Katherine as being played out by Melina Kanakaredes ("Stella" from CSI: New York) - I reckon she would play the part perfectly!

Peter Solomon would just have to be played by Harrison Ford - think this would be a good role for him.

As other people have also mentioned on this forum, I have also pictured Morgan Freeman as "Bellamy"

For one of the smaller parts - Tommy Lee Jones would need to play the role of "Simkins", I think he would be well suited to playing that character.

I am not too sure who would play the role of the main antagonist Mal'akh - can't think of anyone who looks evil enough to play the part - I'll need to give that one some more thought!

Langdon - Tom Hanks (just for

Langdon - Tom Hanks (just for continuity)
Katherine - Cate Blanchett
Peter - Liam Neeson, or Ralph Fiennes (someone else mentioned Richard Gere, who I think would be a good choice also)
Warren Bellamy - Danny Glover
Sato - Tsai Chin
Malakh - Vin Diesel, or Arnold Vosloo
Dean Galloway - Max Von Sydow
